  1. Our pool was installed 9 years ago. 20,000 gallons - 2 HP pump single speed (I know- oversized). Pump now leaking but can be repaired, but decided to go with energy efficient 1.5 HP 2 speed after researching. Have Polaris 360 - pressure side cleaner. I will also need to put in new digital timer for the two speed pump. Local power company gives $100 rebate to install this pump as it is considerably more energy efficient. (take note - if any of you are going to a 2 speed - you may get a similar rebate - check with your power company). Anyway, pool supply company says pump is $800 or so with rebates of about $400 for net cost of about $400. Timer about $280. And they will install all, pump, timer, wiring, etc for about $900 total. But on-line search indicates that the 1.5 two speed pumps are about $400 range - not $800. Timers with case about $250. So except for the misinformation re the pump cost (not $800), this does not seem like a bad deal. I have not been given the brands, specs or details of what they would put in, but I will request that so I know what I am to get. I also contacted my original pool installer and he will provide me with an estimate next week after he checks prices, electrician costs, etc. He recommends Pentair for the pump - the one he always installs in new installations. I think the pool supply company will use a Haywood or Jandy. I am replacing a Centurian Pac-fab and Pentair is that comany's successor. My question: what brands of 2 speed pumps are best, same question for digital timer, any other issues or concerns I should be thinking about. Any idea of a reasonable cost for this equipment and installation - I am not looking for a bargain basement price, just a fair price with the right equipment. Any suggestions or help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
