  1. This must be my day for problems! Just posted a question in the hot tub section and now this.... I accidentally left my Hayward sand filter on in the closed position overnight and it blew the main pipe leading to the pump which then pumped the pool water out to below the skimmer. After finding this and this, I reattached the hose, refilled the pool, then returned the sand filter to the "filter" position the next morning. Since then, I am hearing guggling sounds under the multi-port valve, and the filter basked has loads of bubbles when pumping. The pump primed properly after reattaching and changing to "filter". So, I don't know if I have blown the spider gasket or what. I can't find any air leaks either. Any suggestions?
  2. Hi! I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. I have a 400 gallon Four Winds hot tub. On Sunday I noticed the water was rather milky. On Sunday it was a white opaque color. I tried various methods to clear the water including non chlorine shock, chlorine, enhancer, and clairifier. The chemicals were all fine except for the chlorine (which fluctuates as it does in a hot tub). After nothing helped, I did a plumbing purge overnight then cleaned and refilled the tub. Today, two days later, I open the cover to get in and guess what?? Same milky water. Did a chemical check and all was fine except, again, low chlorine. I am at a loss. Help!!
  3. The non-chlorine shock I use is "Fesh 'N Clear" I purchase from L _ _ _ _ _'s Pools. The ingredients are listed as Potassium peroxymonosulfate - 38%; other ingredients - 62% with available oxygen of 4%. I asked the store clerk what the "other ingredients" were and he could not tell me. Could this maybe be the problem and they don't want to divulge the rest of the ingredients?
  4. I have a perplexing problem concerning cyanuric acid in my spa. I have been using the chlorine method for several years, but just in the last 10 months or so, my cyanuric acid always runs high. The pool store folks told me it was due to my use of stabilized chlorine granules. So, with that being said, I started using plain household bleach. That went fine for a while. Now the cyanuric acid levels are again high. I have done partial drains and total drains but the level keeps on creeping up. I change my spa water quarterly. I use non-chlorine shock every other day, bleach on the off days, and baking soda for Ta and Ph up or down when those levels are off. If my calcium hardness is off, I adjust that with calcium hardness increaser. I have taken water samples to two different pool stores and am told the same thing. Can anyone give me an explanation as to why this is happening?
  5. I have a Hayward model S180T sand filter that needed a new hose. We loosened the clamps and removed the old hose and installed the new hose (very hard to get on!). When we turned the pump back on the there is water seeping out of the end of the new hose. We have tightened the clamp as far as we can but still have quite a steady drip. So, we took the clamp off to take the hose off but it is stuck tight as a tick. we have tried prying, pulling, twisting, etc. to no avail. It will not move an inch. Can anyone tell us how to get this darned thing off without destroying it? I sure don't want to have to buy another hose if I don't have to.
  6. Hi...I'm a newbie here so bear with me. I have a 400 gallon hot tub that we sanitize with chlorine and non-chlorine shock (a tablespoon a day each). We have been doing this for 2 or 3 years (the hot tub is 9 years old) and this is the first time I have had this problem. There is a white chalky looking ring just above the water line in the hot tub. I tested the water this morning and everything looks fine except the pH was a little low. What could be causing this?
