  1. Thanks for the information. I did check it out. Now, I am more confused. Some people are concerned about the freeze-thaw cycle. Even if I seal the travertine, will that prevent the pitting and the enlargement of the holes when water seeps thru' the holes. Travertine pavers (for outdoor use) seem to be a recent phenomenon & I can't seem to find any information on their long-term durability. If anyone has installed travertine pavers, I'd like to know their experience with it. Thanks.
  2. We are trying to finalise the hardscaping options in our backyard & around the pool area. We were looking into concrete pavers & came across travertine pavers. We were completely taken up with the outstanding look of travertine & suddenly, concrete pavers looked so dull in comparison! Surprisingly, the cost is comparable to the cost of concrete pavers. But, here are some concerns I have about travertine. Theses pavers do have naturaly occuring holes/ pits. I was concerned that, over time, rain water that stays in the pits will erode the stone & make the pits bigger. Basically, the stone gets uglier over time & is very hard to maintain. We also like the travertine coping that was available. Will the travertine get affected with the salt water from the salt-water pool that we are planning to build? I would appreciate the input from anyone with any experience in this matter. Thanks.
  3. We are finalising an inground pool - approx size 30X14 feet. We are debating on the pros & cons of installing a retractable pool cover. The contractors are giving mixed messages. There are a no. of things to consider - pool safety, cost, water temp & insulation, ease of keeping the pool clean, shape of the pool. Safety is not our biggest concern since our kids are older & good swimmers. The cost of installing solar panels vs. pool cover are comparable. We live in N. Calif. Does the water stay significantly warmer with the help of the pool cover? I know that it stays cleaner. But, won't all the new pool gadgets - pool sweeper, vaccum & filter, etc. help keep the pool clean & low-maintenance anyway? Would the salt water system corrode the rails of the automated cover? Would it help to have rails made out of brass (or is it bronze?)? I would really appreciate any advise/ experience in this regard.
