  1. after the thaw....... the wife and i looked at spas to buy new and were shocked at local pricing to the point we changed our minds. we called a local repair guy that advertises a lot and he had agreed to repair in 3 days after i gave him the breakdown of what all was wrong. i had bought a thermostatically controlled electric heater that i put underneath to thaw and dry it all out. he texted...yes texted me the next day and told me to call someone else. i kept the missus happy by hiring a professional. now it was my turn as a ultra handy guy. hydrospa i think went broke and runs under hottubparts.com i had every manifold busted and 2" lines broken....one bad speaker, pillows decayed, jets fubared. etc. i ordered everything i thought i needed and spare parts and a ton of replacement jets, pillows, speaker, hoses, etc. i bought 2" and 5" jet bodies and a spare wet end just in case too. turns out more was wrong than i thought but my extra parts was bang on and i had it fixed over a weekend. 6 months later its still going strong and the jets feel powerfull again, and i did all this for about $1500 CDN landed. On a $5K tub, that may sound like lots, but i saved the 1500-2000 labor, and got out of paying 12-15k for a new one. this is all factual nothing made up. not too tough really now that its over. still on original spa pack and heater element..... cheers everyone..
  2. its time to weigh in again. the life and death of my platinum II. purchased august 2006 ish. if you scroll up you will see that i needed pump 1 motor replaced at about the 5-6 year mark. the following year i had to replace the circ pump. as i was getting low flow codes every month. was cheap. did it myself. at that time i ordered new cushions and random jets that either broke or the kids unscrewed and popped out and broke trying to reinstall. spring of 2015 my 12v power supply died that powers stereo. found one online swapped myself. hot tub is now dead due to no fault of its own. some asshat shut off my disconnect switch and hottubs kinda freeze in a cold alberta, canada winter. it almost made it 10 years. (on original brain pack and heater element). in spring i will thaw and see if i can salvage, but ill likely buy a new one. unsure what to get as all my neighbors that bought hottubs after me, from local people, have had to replace before mine and paid double or triple. all in all, the cheap ass costco tub was a bargain and performed well for a decade.
  3. the last 2 pages make me laugh. update: my 2006 hydrospa platinum 2 is still chuggin away, and earlier this year,i finally broke... pump 1 motor was starting to growl, and didnt give up,before our local hot tub store came out and fixed it. i dont think i got a lemon, and i wasnt surprised either after a glitch after over 5 yrs. of constant use. you gotta expect a little of that sort of thing in a mechanical device. still on original heater and all the rest. take this info for whatever you wish. cheers.
  4. if this is true, and i bet your not lying about it, then thats one great reason to avoid hydrospa. thats a pretty crappy way of doing business. Some companies in the world sell a tight product and make good coin off each unit, and some companies just wanna move a ton of product for a lesser margin. If all were true on this forum, I'd say hydroflaw sells a lesser product. but if people are buying, and the guy with the big investment is making big dough, then why would anything change? But i would assume they would have a smarter sales staff than that. Thats one more client they lost to the competition.
  5. i just re-read his orogingal post, you sir, are fucked. he is not dissing anyone, nor is he putting anyone or anything down. he posted about his decision, and apparently you cannot live with his decision. why not, you made the same one. our brains are frozen, this seems like a personal attack, and all i said to you, was glad your unit is working. you know what, f u. time for another forum holiday.... and you mention that a moron wants to fix something new? no one buys anything with the intent of fixing it. but if it ends up that way, some of us don't sit behind a piece of paper and whine about it, we deal with it with available means asap. Jwillard, congrats on your newfound ability to enjoy a new novelty. I suggest not posting about your tub, all you get are naysayers, and personall attacks, so maybe check out the chemical section, and pm specific ppl for help, public posts seem to be useless here. And keep a good business relationship with the spa company that helped your setup. If you require service, and warranty doesn't apply, at least you'll be an active customer in thier database, and get quicker service, if time is important to you. mods, i think its time to lock this thread....
  6. i used a small trailer with enough gvw to haul that load, and had costco load it on its side, standing high. we then used a big blue plastic tarp, to drag it around the side of the house on the lawn. took 6 of us to slide it, but it happened all in under 2 hours including paying for it. Before we took it off the trailer, we notice a hole in the side of it about 1.5" wide, and i told them i didnt care about a hole, lets move i anyway, instead of taking it back. i just fibreglassed it later, and airbrushed a lil benchmixed color to be close-ish color wise. i have a friend in calgary that bought one plat2 at costco and he hauled it in his new dodge longbox. he said it wasnt a problem.
  7. the stereo is weak, but i have to razz my kids to keep it down, to be courteous to the neigbors anyway. i sit a sirius radio on the windowsil and put my remote in a zip loc bag, and i can change it from the tub without moving. if i need serious tunes, my bose outdoor speaks hanging from my soffits can really pound. as long as my house tuner is set on satellite signal, everything is synched. seems the neighbors dont mind shania twian, but cant stand acdc. lol. i think the next tub upgrade, if you will, will be a glass house addition or solarium to surround the tub and about 60% of the rear of my house. it will add privacy, make it more soundproof, and maybe save who knows how much on powa. i hate -40 deg winds bowing at 30 miles an hour while i try and enjoy a tub.
  8. can it be true, jmen's unit, still chugs away? nice to hear. that should put a lil sugar on those sour grapes. i for one, would still ike to see what the power usage is, i leave miine at 40 deg, (104) 24-7, but i dont notice my power bill changing, but with our winters, gas/hydro seems huge no matter what. in the electronics age, i doubt a hot tub will break anyones bank... i think the tub itself is the least expensive part, if you were to ammortize over say 5 years, then chemicals (assuming constant heavy use), then power. but even if the power costs you 1 or 2 hundred in he dead cold of a canadian winter, is it worth it too feel good for that 1/2 hour a day...... best money iv'e pissed away yet.
  9. i havent been here much lately forthis very reason, i think at least 10 ppl here have been called paint, by the usual same people. i think this mans personality is similar to mine. i tinker, and not afraid to learn new things. when you buy a first car, is it a mercedes, or a cavalier. im fortunate to still be problem free with my platII, but still wonder what the future will bring. people get so worked up ovr the little stuff this original poster, was sharing his thoughts, and 5 posts later seemingly has to defend his commets, thats BS. Warranty isn't all its cracked up to anyway, how mny warranties are full of "weasle causes", specifically written small print items that cover almost any contingent, to avoid paying. i bet hydo does this too, along with many other spa builders. you should see what the gm dealer says everytime i go in. rofl "you can't do that, you've voided your warranty!" how many ppl got screwed by the local quaity car dealer? something you pay tens of thousands for, with a life expectantcy of 3-5 years; and every other complaint yeilds, "that's not under warrany sir", or "i wish we at XYZ stealership could help out here..", Does Tim the "toolman Taylor" care about warranty? hes gonna hook up a tidal wave device on it.
  10. only open one side at a 45 degree angle, that adds a lot of ambient heat.
  11. 104 is the factory highest setting no easy way to beat that ps, i cant wait to see the post on what it took to make it go...
  12. you are in the right, i never disputed that.
  13. i wonder if anyone here has the software to load up a custom file onto the balboa heat pack....? Are you in the Ft. St John area? mustn't be lower mainland. I have the same heat concerns you do.at -20 c, i usually sit in it about an hour with the lid half open on one side.(propped up at a 45 deg. angle. but if i'm in that long, i bring a oral thermometer out to make sure my bodycore doesn't get too hot.
  14. oh, if you ever get a higher res pic posted, i can take it and reword the text for you. then you can get that printed up. A new controll would work if you could order the right one..... p.s. i am offering to be nice, no charge. i am not here to promote what i do. (which is still undisclosed).
