  1. I have a Rotospa hot tub and use peroxide as well. I've had my tub just over a year. I used to use Peroxysan, but it's way too expensive. I use 35% peroxide and get it much much cheaper than the Peroxysan. I used to use both Peroxysan and 35% peroxide, but eventually stopped with the Peroxysan. I haven't changed my tub water since May 16. It's still crystal clear and smells like nothing. I didn't find anything positive about h202 on here either, but I still lurk to share my experience for those that inquire about it. It's not EPA approved, but that doesn't bother me. I have the option of soaking in sludge if I want to. (someone said that in one of my threads) I def have learned a lot on this site though. Most important : peroxide and chlorine together is bad! Have a look at my threads. I had a hell of a time when I first started out, but once we got a 'clean' tub, we haven't had any problems. My biggest mistake in the beginning was not sticking to the schedule. (ie keeping proper h202 level and rotating filters) I can't give my opinion on chlorine or bromine because I've never used either of them. I just hate the smell after being at the pool in town so I'm sticking with what works for me. Drop me a line if you have any questions. I'm quite happy with my choice.
  2. Interesting... I have to switch by filters weekly because I use Peroxide. I used to soak the filter in a 2:1 mixture of peroxide:water, but it was too expensive so I started just soaking it in bleach. The filters have gone from blue to white, but they seem fine. I rotate 3. One in the tub, one soaking for a week, one drying for a week. I'd be curious to know the right amout of bleach to water ratio to be using to kill everything but not harm the filter. I'm just winging it right now. I don't even measure.
  3. 2)the dealer not only suggested peroxysan but suggested a table spoon of chlorine shock every week....you chemical guys do you see any troubles with this? There are problems with this. They neutralize each other. I learned this the hard way by pouring chlorine into my tub to 'shock' it. It just screwed everything up. I'll let the chem pro's explain in greater detail if they feel like it. I don't know how much of each it takes to neutralize the other. Good luck with the wee one.
  4. I've tried TPS once, but didn't really notice any difference. Maybe I didn't use enough. I find that the hose blasts 90% of the crud out of the filter. Like Peteyboy, I rotate 2 filters. I don't just soak it overnight though. I have one in the tub and one in the 2:1 solution. When I need to change, I swap them. I have a 3rd filter and am tempted to try the idea of having one in the tub, one in the solution and one dried out waiting to go in the tub. HP is def expensive and I hate it when I have to change the 2:1 solution. Typically when I take a filter out, the water level lowers a bit. I just top it off with HP. You have to change it eventually though. My 'bucket' is a cardboard tube with a plastic bag in it. I couldn't find a container tall enough to submerge the whole filter in unless the container was really wide. That would have taken a whole jug of HP. Not happening. My dealer was supposed to be having a custom container made. Never heard back.
  5. Tom, I change my filter once a week. I have two filters. One in the tub and the other soaking in 2:1 (water:peroxide). Spray it as clean as you can with the hose before you soak it. Cramp
  6. "Chlorine and hydrogen peroxide will neutralize each other" Exactly. Why the hell do I keep finding sites and hearing dealers recommend mixing the two? I learned this the hard way. I've never had cloudy water or smelly water. *knock on wood* The only problem I've had is biofilm and after a detox, I got it under control, but I started to notice a bit around the jets after the winter. Spa Flush, a scrubbin', fresh fill... voila. Everything seems ok again.
  7. Draining my tub tomorrow. Bought a bottle of Spa Purge to see what it can do. All I can say is FOAM! Maybe I shouldn't have used the whole bottle. It's insane how much foam there is. I can't leave the jets on for more then a minute or it's overflowing. http://easyspaparts.com/Spa_Purge_Instructions.pdf is an article I found. I gave it a whirl. Hilarious watching the foam come out the sides. Like adding regular soap to the dishwasher. I hope the heck it all comes out when I drain the tub. I'm not noticing anything floating around once the foam goes away. I guess that's a good sign.
  8. Peroxide is def a more expensive route. I've never done the math. I get 16L of Peroxysan (29%) for $133 from the spa dealer. I'm not buying 5 gallon jugs of 35% peroxide which I used to get for $60, but now they are $75 and probably going up again. The 'floaties' were biofilm. We never got rid of that problem until we detox'd the tub. I'm draining my tub this weekend and am going to use Spa Flush. I'm curious to see what happens. It's been 5 months since I changed the water. Still looks crystal clear, no smell, but I'm noticed a bit of biofilm around one of the jets. Gonna try to nip it now before we're back to where we were before.
  9. Hey Tom, I've never used another chemical so I don't know if chlorine or bromine would irritate my skin or not. I'm assuming it would, but I can't say for sure. I'm on vacation next week and will be in a hotel with a hot tub. I plan on trying it out to compare. (I wonder how balanced the water will be ) Hockey bothers my skin too. Actually anything that makes me sweat bothers my skin. I think I'm allergic to myself. I can control hockey by having multiple sets of full length undergarments that wisk away sweat. That seems to do the trick (except my hands). Never have a problem with the sauna. If anything, I find it helps my eczema. I'm happy with Peroxide, but it is a chemical you have to be on top of. Biggest annoyance is changing the filter weekly (the cleaning part). Good luck! cramp
  10. Where are you from? http://www.superfastsolutions.com is the place I was going to get it from. I am currenlty getting from a pool/spa business. Just dig around. Peroxysan is product you can buy in at a pool/spa place. It's under 30% peroxide and a bit pricey. I use it and 35% h2o2. Peroxide is a very finicky chemical. If you're not on top of it, you get into trouble. I've been using it close to a year now. It's the only chemical I've ever used. We had some major problems at the start, but once we decom'd and started over, it's been smooth sailing. (We haven't changed out water since Nov and it's crystal clear) Cramp
  11. Interesting article. I went to the page of approved peroxide chemicals. Curious to see if any of them can be found in Canada and how they are different then just the plain ol' jug of 35% peroxide.
  12. SJ Hart, peroxide is the only chemical I use in my tub. Though it's not EPA approved, etc, etc... it's working fine for me. I just have to remember to add a cup every 4 days. Day 124 and still crystal clear. Doesn't smell like sewage either. Actually doesn't smell like anything. Another reason why I like it. I go away for a week at the end of May. I think I'll drain it when I get back. I still need to pick up Spa Flush or a simular product.
  13. 24/7 to me is an overkill. Like you, I turn mine on when I'm around the tub. I usually throw the jets on high and turn on the air jets too. After 5-10 min, turn it back off. Again, no idea if that really does anything, but I don't want to chance anything. Good luck with it and keep me posted.
  14. Our tub is 1100L. You really seem to be pouring a lot in compared to me. I'd inquire about the rotation of the filters. I got lazy when I first got the tub and the filter got a bunch of crud on it. I religiously change it weekly now. I think this could be the problem. The 2:1 peroxysan/water "soak" the filters sit in (I rotate 2 filters) seems to work. Have a look at my thread when I was having issues : http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22034 (it's a little long and goes all over the place about chemicals) I never experienced cloudy water.... just white floaters (which is pretty gross) The detox stuff I used was called Sani-Cleen (23% peroxide and 4.3% Peroxyacetic acid). My dealer got it from Peroxysan. 4 months later... tub is doing great. It's a 5 gallon jug. You pour it in (don't breath the vapours) and cycle the air jets on high multiple times. I let it sit overnight. Next day I drained the tub, refilled it, drained it again, refilled it and started over again. I would contact Peroxysan, tell them you want a jug of Sani-Cleen to try or you're switching to something else. Once we got a problem, it didn't go away. They had us pour in jugs of peroxysan... problem just kept coming back until we used Sani-Cleen. Heck, I made the dealer give me a few jugs of Peroxysan since they kept having me add more and it didn't help. Another important thing for us was spraying the inside cover and cup holders. I try to do it biweekly. I either use a 11:1 peroxysan/water mixer or just 100% vinegar. I also have a 5 gallon jug of 35% peroxide that I add. I still don't go over 3 cups max per week total though. I mainly use it for spraying the cover. One more thing... what's your filtration set at on your tub? Mine is set for 3hrs/4 times a day. Way back I was set at 1hr/4 times a day. Not sure if that really made a difference, but what I'm doing is working so I don't want to mess with it. Drop me a note if you have any questions or throw them in this thread. I'll help if I can.
  15. Same mistake I made. Bleach and peroxide don't mix. They neutralize each other and you have nothing in your tub. I found that out on this forum. Lots of websites tell you it's ok to mix them. How much peroxysan do you add? You sound like you use the tub as much as me. It's just my wife and I as well. We're 1 cup every 4 days. A few other questions... When you first fill your tub, how much peroxysan do you add to the tub? (How big is your tub?) Do you change your filter weekly? I'm not familiar with disposable filters, but you really have to change them weekly or you'll have problems. Have you spoken to your dealer or Peroxysan about their detox chemical? We used this and haven't had a problem since. Sorry I don't know anything about the other chemical you're talking about. Good luck if you decide to switch.
