  1. The big chain pool store near me is Namco. They sell only 1 In-ground solar reel and it goes for $80 for the roller plus another $60 or so for the aluminum tube. You can see the roller here: http://store.namcopoolstore.com/web06360.html The small non-chain pool store also only carries one type and it's $350 (don't know the make/model). I've never had a solar reel before. Do you think $140 one would be ok or do I need to spend like $350 in order for it to be decent quality?
  2. I'd just start a new thread with the description you gave above and maybe some extra details if you think any are required. Of course be ready for questions/comments if you did decide to.
  3. Thanks for the links Richard! They were very helpful! I called the peristaltic pump company from Pool Clowns link. They were definitely very eager to help over the phone. It sounds like even for those, you will still need to do regular cleaning for what sounds like a very similar problem as the Liquidator. The representative said there will be a white build up which will need to be cleaned in a similar manner on a regular basis. I asked her how often and she said everyone is different and it could range from once every 2 weeks to once every 6 months. Since that seems to be the primary complaint of the Liquidator, and it's the same for the peristaltic pumps, and the Liquidator is much cheaper, I think I'll give the Liquidator a shot. Thanks again everyone!
  4. That's definitely a cool idea! Nice job on it. You should post some pics...people here would refer to you for years when people ask about Liquid Chlorine Feeders.
  5. Wow...Sorry to hear that. At least it wasn't underground piping though...Then it could have been a problem. As you said, emergency generator should do the trick it sounds like though. You just need one that pops on automatically in case you're not home at the time. Good luck!
  6. This was great! Thanks! I've looked into these in the past, and as you said it's hard to get good information out there. Unfortunately for me that amount of wood runs me about $150 delivered, so I'd probably be better off with electric or gas. If the unit itself was only $300 or $400 it would still be worth it just to get the pool warm during one-off occasions. Also, kind of what you were referring to with the glass window...what would be nice if someone developed a fire pit that also heats your pool. During the summer time I have countless barn fires in my backyard, and all that heat/energy is just lost. Would be nice if it could also be heating my pool at the same time. Thanks again!
  7. Thanks for the great post! Very informative! Few questions... 1) Cost (if you don't mind saying)? 2) If you kept it running for 24 hours, about how much wood would be consumed? 3) If you kept it running for 24 hours, how often would you have to poke/feed it? 4) Is there a constant fire odor in the pool area? 5) How bad is the smoke? I know you said that it's hard to make those statements because it's wood dependent, but if you had to guess for normal wood that you'd get delivered for a fireplace for example. Thanks again!
  8. Great! Thanks! I called the company and got some extra info. It seems very good and like it would be a good way to go. My only sense of hesitation is that I so far haven't been able to find a bad review of the Liquidator and that's about a 1/3 of the cost. Does anyone know any reasons why I should go the peristaltic pump route over the Liquidator? Anyone hear anything bad of the Liquidator? Thanks!
  9. Interesting! I looked them up and tried to find some info on them but finding it a bit difficult. How does it work? Do I attach it the tube to some kind of plastic container with chlorine in it, and it automatically adds the right amount needed? Any kind of maintenance required other than adding more chlorine? Thanks for the link!
  10. It sounds like you don't fully trust your pool store. I've found pool stores to be hit and miss. Some are great. Some, as you put it, have $ in their eyes. Others are uninterested and will sell you anything for the sake of it. For example, on a number of occasions I've witnessed them pretend to test the water sample I bring them in but instead just make up the results based on the description of the water I gave them. Then they recommend a bunch of chemicals. If I were you, I would do a few things. First...don't give up on the salt water generator yet. Get the pool right first, then give the generator a better shot. Second, if you have other pool stores near by (it's Florida...you must) try a few out until you find one you like. Third, get your own test kit (don't use strips) and start testing the water on your own. Post your results here. Describe the condition of the water, tell the number of gallons you have, and mention the salt water generator when you do. The first thing to do though is get your current pool store out of the mix. You've given them weeks and your pool is no better. They've sold you lots of chemicals and things have only gotten worse. Plus, you said you don't trust them. They could be completely honest, however who you are dealing with there, may not be the expert he claims to be. Good Luck and post some results here!
  11. Looking for a Chlorine Liquid Feeder (one that isn't overly priced either) so that I don't have to constantly add bleach to my pool. The only one I could find is the Liquidator. Anyone use it? Is it recommended? Reliable? Work well? Any other brands you could recommend as well? Thanks!
  12. From what I understand it's algae! You can't see it in the water because it's tiny particles, but when you bring it all together it's a lot of gunk. That's what's nice about the skimmer socks...if you have a DE Filter, those algae particles will clog it up and you gotta clean it out. But if you use the skimmer sock, it'll be caught there, saving you from having to clean the DE Filter.
  13. Hey folks, Can you replace your metal coping with stone coping on a vinyl pool? I've heard that you can in some circumstances depending on how the vinyl is attached. If so, how would I be able to tell if I could? Thanks!
  14. Thanks. I'm in Massachusetts. Unfortunately Rubaroc doesn't have any installers around here. I researched rubberized decking products in Massachusetts per your suggestion, but not finding too much aside from one company.
