Serena Bay 2004 - Bay Series - Water Chemistry

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently purchased a very large 2004 serena bay series hot tub. I have never owned a pool or a hot tub before so i know very little about water chemistry.

I will start by saying that i know this thing has a working ozonator and is an 8 seater.

I purchased the tub in april and i have had nothing but water problems. i started the tub using bromine and within a week the water went cloudy and almost yellowish. i then went to my local hot tub store and they told me to not use bromine that chlorine was better. So i drained the tub and switched. The store sold me brilliance chlorine, along with alk, oxidizer, calcium, test strips.

I followed the directions from the store and filled the tub with hard water as i do not have a water softener. i added 3 tablespoons of chlorine and the next day added a tablespoon of oxidizer. water was clear for a few days and then back to murky. test strips showed very little chlorine so i added more then it seemed to clear. this is the same problem i had with bromine the test strips kept saying not enough bromine.

anyway this battle has been going on for months, a couple of days of clear then back to murky and i have to throw a ton of chemicals and wait a few days to use it again. i feel as though i am using way too many chemicals at this point.

i usually put the pumps on and add the chemicals to the skimmer.

Also my filters run twice a day for 60 minutes and i try to clean the filter pads once a week.
