  1. I have a Sta-rite Sys 3 DE filter system on 13k gal inground pool with a 2hp pump. I assume there is a hole in the filter element(60 sq ft) since the DE medium & small pieces of vacuumed debris makes it's way into the pool. I've examined the element the best I could and did not find a break as well as where it connects to the return port inside the filter case. I have 2 questions: 1. What other reason could there be for my problem? 2. Can I replace my current filter syst with a Jacuzi Sherlok Sher120 filter system or is this just for a hottub? Thanks
  2. What would happen if a DE system was used without the DE medium for a month or so?
  3. Thank you for the information. It is very helpful.

  5. Hello all, I have a 13,300 gal in ground pool with a Sta Rite System3, model #S7MD60 DE filter, 60 sq.ft filtration area. I am trying to cut the cost of operating this filtration system. I would like to replace my electric pump with solar power. Disregarding the cost/benefit considerations for now I have the following questions: 1. what is the absolute minimum pressure required to effectively filter the water. 2. How many times per day do I need to cycle the water? Thanks for your help.
  6. The answer depends on the Cyanuric Acid (CYA) level in your pool since a normal shock level is a Free Chlorine (FC) level that is 20% of the CYA level. You can use The Pool Calculator to calculate dosages and should read the Pool School to learn how to shock your pool (that's one of the articles). Generally, if you properly maintain your FC level relative to the CYA level, then you hardly ever need to shock the pool. Every 96-ounce (3/4 gallon) jug of 6% bleach added to 13,300 gallons of water would raise the FC by 3.5 ppm. Thanks for the info. I due to leave town for a few days and wanted to make sure the chem bal would not go haywire. I will attend the pool school when I return.
  7. How much 6% bleach should be added to a 13,300 gal. inground pool to "shock"? Thanks
  8. I was excited to learn that one could substitute Borax for the more expensive "PH Up". Is there a list of similar substitute chemicals anywhere on this forum? Thanks to everyone responsible for all the great information on this site.
