If it is reading the temp it is connected. Now as far as the temp not being able to be adjusted, is there a padlock symbol on the control panel. If not remove the plastic cover on the top of the panel where the light is. Behind this will be two phillips screws. Remove those and the panel will pull out. Once out remove the black plastic cap on the back side then remove the 4 phillips screws and remove the box that contains the circuit board. once that is off clean the actual control panel then reassemble everything. You should be back in business. Most of the time this will solve your problem. Failure of that control panel is slim. Hope this helps.
