  1. I don't have any info to help you out, but we are installing a Pentair IntelliBrite today. It looks like a nice piece and only draws 40 something watts. That is much better than 300 or 500. We did not have a light before and are looking forward to anything. The rest of our house is lit with CFLs or LEDs already. Keep us posted on what you go with. Jeff G.
  2. Thank you for the great advice. We are looking forward to getting thinks taken care of next week. We are in Northern California, in the East Bay. Our swim season is already pretty long. Right now, we are going to forego the heater as the hit to the budget with the redo of the pool is a big expense.
  3. Hi all. I need some pro advice. I have been having some copper and ph issues with my pool. I have drained and refilled without success in improving my water much. See thispost for details. My liner tore while the pool was refilling and I am looking at replacing it. I am thinking that I will do some repairs to the system before I put the new liner in. We bought the house 2 years ago. The pool light has been vinyled over. The skimmer had a crack in it which I epoxied last summer. I have been told that my filter was made for an above ground pool and should be 3 times larger. The timer is broken and I control the pool pump by turing the breaker on and off. I was considering replacing the entire system. I have copper pipes imbedded in a slab that run approximately 20 feet to the pool pump and filter. I was thinking of replumbing the pool while I was at it. There is no bottom drain and I don't plan on adding one. I was thinking of relocating the pool equipment so that I do not have to jackhammer the entire patio. I was going to add a LED light. Can anyone recommend a good plan of attack? Can someone recommend a good energy efficient system that will not break the bank? I have a 13000 gallon vinyl lined inground pool. Thanks in advance. JG
  4. Dang, I posted this in the hot tub section first. Such a noob move.. Hi all. Long time looker, first time poster here. I have been having a problem the past few weeks with copper and a low pH of 6.0. I have been trying to add soda ash to raise the pH of the pool. I have a 13000 gal vinyl lined pool. I have been unable to get the pH up. I just ended up turning the pool cloudy and having green/blue dust on the bottom of the pool. My pool has copper pipes for both the drain and return lines. I recently disconnected the heater and took that out of the equation. I have tried adding some metal-b-gone products and eventually drained 10000 gallons and refilled. My pH after refilling was still over 5. My pH was 7,0. I have added more soda ash and tried to balance everything without success. I let the pool sit for 2 days and vacummed out a nice layer of green/blue powder from the bottom of the pool yesterday. I ran the filter for a couple of hours and have let the pool sit overnight. I added more water and will let it sit until tomorrow. I plan to vacuum tomorrow and retest the water. Where do I go from here? Thanks for any advice. JG
