  1. I second the above recommendation! I've been following Nitro's method for six months now and I was a rookie like you. Read, re-read and follow it exactly and you will be thrilled.
  2. If you use Taylor kits how about one of these!
  3. Very interested in purchasing a chlorine generator for my spa. Mostly to help ensure I dont let my FC reach zero again. Is anybody familiar with This or any similar product?
  4. Didnt see that part of the calculator, thanks for that. Water issues totally resolved now as well. Thanks for all your help again!
  5. Try the Dichlor/Bleach method after doing a decontamination. Thats what I did after switcjing from a bromine system and my itching went away! Not sure if it was the bromine or the decon. but it definitely was not the hot water for me.
  6. Ya I had the borates in. Not totally sure though at what level. I put 2 cups of Borax in at the water change but not positive on what ppm that would have given me in 360 gallons.
  7. No ozone. CD before was about 35% then I changed the filter just before the FC got to zero and the CD dropped to 25% which was good. A test this morning showed FC at 7.5ppm so thats a drop of only 2.5ppm in the last 24 hours. I think we may have caught up to this hey, Chem Geek? Any other help you may have is much appreciated. Warren
  8. So an update. Checked the FC 24 hours after the 30ppm shock was reduced to 12.5 and it was 6 so I am catching up now. I did like Chem geek said and changed my filter as well. The CC is still around 1ppm so I suppose I should try and lower that with another Chlorine dose tonight?
  9. OK. Some of this makes sense. In my latest test FC 12.5 the CYA was around 30ppm. Would that mean that it hadnt been converted into ammonia? Or would that test be skewed by whats going on? Also the CC was 2 ppm(24 hours after the 30ppm shock) and when I tested the time before it was 1ppm. So the CC did go up overnight. Thanks
  10. I let my FC go to zero. Yep i did it, one month into a fresh water change with the Dichlor/Bleach method. Up till this point it was going just great - much easier than the bromine method I was using previous. So anyway after FC discovery I have been trying to catch back up. Since Sunday (when it went to zero) I have put a total of 36 ppm chlorine in my spa using clorox in 12ppm increments and have not used it at all. Every time after 24 hours this amount of FC is used up except 1-2ppm. Last night I put in another 30ppm and when I checked just now (24 hours later) its at 12.5ppm. So it seems like I'm catching up slowly but am assuming I'm not using enough? Is this water doomed and i need to drain? Is there a ppm number I should shock too? Like 50ppm and see before i drain and start over? Sucks not being able to use the tub! Thanks for reading! Warren
  11. Sounds good. I'll give that a try. Also without a scale to weigh my Dichlor about how many grams in a tablespoon? Thanks for your help.
  12. OK finally finished my decontamintion. Went good and here are my water numbers straight from the tap tested with my taylor kit. FC 0.5 TA 160 PPM Ch 150 PPM pH 7.6 I'm going to maintain a water temp. of 104 all the time and plan on using borates @ 50ppm with the Dichlor/Bleach method. What do you guys think I should aim for on goals for the above numbers?
  13. Yep the only good thing about winter is tubbing! Simply the best time when its cold. I've been out in -30C a couple times which can work with a hat and no wind.
  14. Hi Tom At the bottom. You need to fill out the boxes to let the spreadsheet know what your using for chlorine/what your spa surface is etc. Warren
  15. Too much. Go to the pool calculator to find out your amount I think more like 1-2 oz is all you need.
