  1. Take the tub back to the dump and buy a new one..you'll be better off in the long run.
  2. go with jacuzzi or sundance...
  3. Could it be that the Onzen system is even close to what people expect, and that the consumer might be better off just canning it and going back to chlorine or bromine with an ozonator? Just a thought seeing all of the problems people are having with them. Hey Spodaddyo, Can you PM me your contact details and spa serial number so that I can look into this and call you on it? I have some ideas on what the issue might be. Kind regards, James
  4. Good evening folks..I see Beef has blocked replys to my statements..enough said...get out of the kitchen beef SO.......POOLSPADUDE I GUESS YOU DONT MEET THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS ?.......IM JUST SAYING YOUR MIGHTY DEFENSIVE..........ARE THESE REQIREMENTS TO HIGH?................WHAT DO YOU THINK QUALIFIES AN INSTALLER AS BEING A TOP RANKED INSTALLER? Why is 15 years the magic number for experience? I have 11 years of hands on experience but I also have a background in construction engineering and hydraulic engineering. So the 15 year minimum doesn't make sense. My pools are built better than guys that have been doing this for 30 years. You dont have to make fiberglass repairs if you install it correctly. Making sure you build on solid ground and have proper bottom preparation will insure a crack free pool. I have not encountered half the soil conditions you stated. Yet I am building a pool half on land and half in a lake this summer. I have never done this before, so I am working with the best soil and structural engineers and an incredible architect. Its not necessarily what you know but sometimes who you know. My pools are level within an 1/8''. Install a pool in one day? You kidding me. Half of my projects are between $100,000 to 150,000. To a certain extent speed is important, but to say its a measure of quality, is obsurd. I am pretty sure that when my competitors are bidding against me, they are trying to get the job, I would be shocked if they told the homeowner to go with me instead of them. 8 and 10 are ok 9 is kind of ironic. How can you say you need to be able to show a pool that has been built 10 years ago? How do you sell that first pool, if you dont have any 10 year old pools in the ground? At some point in time we all were the new guys on the block. Selling of at least 300 pools. It doesnt matter if those 300 pools were installed wrong. That means no flex pvc pipe, no 1.5'' plumbing pipe, at least a 3'' main drain line, at least 2'' return lines, and properly sizing your pumps. This falls into 9's response. Also volume does not mean quality. I would rather build 15 $100,000 pools a year, than 30 $35,000 pools. I understand what your point is. You're tired of the new guys coming in with no experience and a cheap price taking jobs away from you. We all deal with. The only way to combat that is to show value to the consumer and show that you are the local professional that actually knows what their doing. Nick........thank you for your PROFESSIONAL response i can appreciate your points made and im sure your a TOP INSTALLER. I most certainly was refering to green horns doing more talking than installing.......by saying install a pool in a day i ment a cookie cutter not the elaborate custom pools you are building that DO require more time and attention to detail. I also truly appreciate your ability to admit that when you dont know something you hire somebody that does........... Wow guys, this has been a fun thread thus far, love the passion! First of all, I'd like to give you props Beef for even being concerned enough to come up with a post like this. I think you make legitimate points, but at the same rate, I don't agree with a few. I would say though that it would be great to have more standards in the fiberglass pool industry. The manufacturers actually tried to initiate this once upon a time but 'he-who-shall-not-be-named' poo-pooped the whole thing....Like you Beef, my company has installed multiple brands. But I actually wish this was not true. The reason why we've installed multiple brands is because it took us 7 years to really find a company we absolutely loved due to their quality. In other words, had we started with Leisure we likely would have never had to repair a crack. But because we started with Viking, we had to repair cracks all the time. It's no coincidence that we've had zero structural issues with one company and nothing but problems with the previous. Also, I do not feel that time in the industry means anything as a metric. I think it more has to do w/ number of installs. I say this because we've installed about 600 pools in roughly 9 years. Compared to the guy that's installed 400 pools over 20 years, who has more experience?.....In terms of sales persons, I don't agree with your thoughts because that would be like saying you had to of played football to coach it. Fact is, many NFL coaches never even played highschool ball, but this does not make their product knowledge less inferior.....But I repeat Beef what I mentioned earlier-- Your passion is great for the industry and I frankly wish a lot more people were a lot like you.
  5. 1) I have 8 yrs experience..which I will gladly put up against most installers with twice that much. 2) I have installed only one brand, which shall remain nameless to be impartial, but have seen the abortion installs of many of my competitors. If you have installed 5 brands, you couldn't find quality if it slapped you in the face! 3)I've been doing fiberglass and gell coat repairs long before you were even an itch in your daddy's pants. 4)I've seen and installed in every type of soil condition out there..even hit a pile of dead horses once. 5)1/4" out of level?...You need to raise your standards my friend. 6)One day Install?..yeah,I could do it..if I wanted to compromise quality for speed. If a pool builder told me he was going to install my pool in one day,I'd throw his ass off my property. 7)My competitors love to talk ****...because they install ****. My peers and customers on the other hand, can and will attest to my skills. 8)I understand and know the difference in quality materials and that is why I install the brand that I install. 9)Give me 2 years and I'll be happy to show you my balls on level pool installs. 10)I have made mistakes in the past, but the difference with me is that I fixed them, made the client happy , and NEVER repeat it again(unlike alot of boneheads out there). Hey Beeflips...are you even a fiberglass pool installer? What makes you think you can even make such demands from us professionals? Bet you can't even meet one of your "requirements" so sit down, shut your mouth, and leave the installations to those that can back their work up with the one truly measure ...happy customers. SO.......POOLSPADUDE I GUESS YOU DONT MEET THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS ?.......IM JUST SAYING YOUR MIGHTY DEFENSIVE..........ARE THESE REQIREMENTS TO HIGH?................WHAT DO YOU THINK QUALIFIES AN INSTALLER AS BEING A TOP RANKED INSTALLER?
  6. Hey RiverPoolsMarc...I personally like to sit on the sidelines and watch these knucleheads eat each other while you and I install quality pools!!! I have to admit..you seem to be the most respectable person on this topic!! If you have a chance to look at Barrier Reef Pools, they build a very sturdy pool so much so that a spreader bar is not needed to lift into position, they have a 15 year warranty on their finish and a lifetime warranty on the pools. The color is VERY beautiful - the best I've seen and the report I looked at from the testing company (provided by manufacturer) showed theirs performed the best out of all other finishes available. I would definitely check them out. I too live in NW Ohio and looked at Viking Blue Haw. S/J and choose Barrier Reef. The have been building color fiberglass pools since 1984. I agree with the person who stated it is VERY important to pick the right installer. Bandontherun, I like seeing you here on the forums and appreciate your passion for BR. As you already know, I think they make a good pool as well. But I also think it's important that you show all your cards on here and fill out your profile---Name, company, etc... Transparency is the best approach when discussing manufacturers on forms.
  7. Go white.....or go blue.......just go fiberglass!!
  8. Be able to install a pool in one day!!?? Have 10 competitors recommend you!!?? Hey BeefShrimp..if these are your qualifications for a professional installer, it will be a long time before you ever get a good pool!! How about just checking a boat load of references and do your own diligent backround checks, if you had your way, we would have to join a union, pay dues, and the consumer would be getting even worse quality at a higher price!!
  9. Maybe the light will catch the hot tub on fire and heat the water up and cut down on your electric bill!! ...towel.
  10. Great call Fabio!!!!!... Take comfort in the fact that when your soaking in your jammin" J-355... the fool that bought the Artic down the street will be kicking and screaming that his ozen system doesn't work...pump # 1 low speed pooped the bed....and /or the dealer that sold it to him wants to charge him 95.00 bucks to come out and tell him nothings wrong with it!!! Full foam over "the story" once again!!
  11. Nordic Hot Tubs...any dealers in your area? Great value for the money and in your price range.
  12. Does the pump ever shut off? I have seen were the filter cycles are set to long and it drives the heat up and gives a HL error. What model tub do you have? Yes, this is VERY common on some of the Maax tubs, especially with extended filtration times. John or maybe it's the garbage spa packs made by Gecko/Spa builders that soldered the high limit sensor to the board in the first place! If that is the case..do yourself a favor and replace the whole pack w/ a Balboa VS...you will pay about the same and get a new heater and topside to boot!
  13. Try a towel....
  14. really...after spending 13 K on a hot tub...why would you want to cover it w/ some cheap canopy from a tire store!!?? soak in it..get out and roll around in the snow...jump back in...be a TRUE hot tubber!!!
  15. What Roger said is easiest; pull the pump and take it to a motor shop that works on pool and spa equipment. What you're looking for is one of these guys: http://www.aquasuperstore.com/SearchResult...?CategoryID=108 You'd have to take your motor out, take off the front of the wet end (pump), try to get the impeller off - 1/2 of the time the impeller breaks - unscrew the 4 really long bolts that holds the pump onto the motor, then replace the seal, and put it all back together again. I hope this helps! And if that doesn't work...(it's amazing what rust will do to a pump shaft!!) , buy a whole new motor/pump..alot of times when you add in frustration factor time anf effort, this is the best and fastest way to proceed.
