yes, he's just putting down a pre cast slab(there was nothing there). I don't think he is expanding the plumbing to two inch but I am assuming because the configuration is changing slightly because of how much bigger the new filter is. I am not sure about valves but I had assumed they were not Home Depot but Jandy or similar.

Just a pad for the filter, maybe 3 x 3. He said he could do it all in a day (him and his other guy). Based on the prices of the filter/pump it seemed reasonable but I just found a price on the pump for $429.

Had a quote given over the phone and a quote given in person and trying to gauge how fair a price this is. Vinyl lined pool 36x18 her in Phoenix, AZ (no closing). We are replacing the old pump and filter both sized a tad too small(especially to keep things clear in the summer months) The quote was for: Pump - Pentair Whisperflo 1 HP Filter - TR-100 4.9 sand Timer - TIghtwatt digital timer Since the filter is going to be a bit bigger he is going to rip all the above ground plumbing off, do new pad for the filter, new plumbing, valves, etc. $895 for each for the pump and the filter, $100 for the timer. Everything else included in those prices with labor, etc. Total before tax is $1890. Does this sound like a fair price? We did not anticipate paying that much but if it is what it is then.... Hi All - We just purchased a home in Phoenix, AZ with a ~500 sq ft vinyl lined rectangular pool. We just received our first water bill and were blown away and knew we had a leak somewhere and the pool seemed like the first place to check. I did the bucket test and the bucket evaporated about 1/2 of water in 24 hours, the pool lost about 4-5 inches so we knew we were losing some serious water. No leaks were apparent but I started looking around and on the top step on the stairs (which is about 8 inches below the surface) the linign had bunched up and become bleached - more then likely because of the hot AZ sun after years of abuse. I inspected it more closely and found a tear, then two then 3...crap. Basically the lining on the whole top step is brittle and has lots of small tears. We were supposed to have our pool service come out and give an estimate. They want to do a test for additional leaks for $300 and then the repair would be a minimum of $275. My question is the additional test necessary and worth it and do the prices seem accurate and two is it even repairable? To me it seems like the entire top step needs to be removed and replaced but I am not sure if that is possible. We now assume the the liner is at least 10 years old so it's probably time to replace it with a new one or go a different route. The problem is it's leaking lots and if I keep the auto leveler on its just wasting away the water. If I turn it off and the pump isn't running it's going to get nasty quick.
