  2. General Pool Maintenance

Some people think that just balancing water is enough to maintain a pool. This is a misnomer for inexperienced pool owners. There is general maintenance that needs to be done weekly to ensure a clean and functioning swimming pool. Utilizing pool equipment and supplies to help maintain a pool with more efficiency. Check pool filtration system The pump and filter components make up the pool filtration system. Pool pumps drive pool water through the filter, and the filter removes dirt and debris by trapping small particles that are in the pool water and do not dissolve. Most swimming pool filters use sand, diatomaceous search (DE) or cartridge elements to filter the water. Consult the manufacturer's operating manual to properly clean and backwash the filter. Remove any debris that is found in the filter basket. Clean skimmer/pump basket The pool skimmer and pump basket are designed to collect larger debris before it reaches the filter. The skimmer basket should be cleaned frequently. Failure to remove debris from the pump basket often results in poor water circulation, messing with the efficiency of the filtration. Brushing pool walls and floor Brushing pool walls will loosen debris and dirt to be skimmed or caught in the pool's filtration system, as well as prevent algae growth and staining due to stagnant dirt. Use a pool wall brush to clean and scrub pool walls and bottom. Leaf net skimming Use a Leaf Skimmer to pull out leaves and other floating debris from the surface of the water. Save time, increase filter efficiency, and prevent staining of the pool bottom by removing leaves and debris before it reaches the filter system or the bottom of the pool. Pool Vacuuming Vacuuming swimming pools helps to ensure a clean, healthy water environment. Most manual pool vacuums attach to the skimmer and use the pump pressure to bring debris off of the bottom of the pool. Important: Remove all air from the vacuum hose when using a manual vacuum. Air can be removed from the vacuum hose by submersing the vacuum hose under water or by placing the vacuum hose over one of the return fittings before hooking it up to the skimmer. Keep surrounding pool deck areas clean of leaves and debris It is good practice to keep the deck and surrounding areas free from leaves, dirt, and debris to support the maintenance of a clean pool. Dirt and debris will be brought into the pool by swimmers or blown into the pool where it will have to be cleaned out. Regularly hosing down the deck or raking the surrounding yard is recommended to prevent additional pool water cleaning.
