  1. Thanks for the reply. I live in the Eastern part of West Virginia (close to DC). I did not think we had a bunch of clay in our soil but I guess it is possible. So when you say go down to the frost line...is that measured from the top of the pool coping?
  2. I have noticed that almost 1/2 of the decking around our pool has risin above the level of our coping with the worst area being under the diving board where it has risin about 1 1/2 inches above the coping. This is the third winter we have gone through with our pool and it was fine the first two winters. After the first winter we had the seal/caulk put in between the coping and decking. Our Merlin pool cover is the solid type and covers the gap between the coping and decking by about a foot all the way around providing further protection from water getting in the gap. Can anyone provide some insight as to why this might have happened and any precautions I can take to help prevent it from happening again? Right now I am planning on having all effected sections of decking replaced...any feedback on this? I know the concrete won't match once it is replaced...what about staining all of it to help it match better? Any ideas on the price I can expect to pay for this type of job?
  3. We closed our in-ground pool for the second time since having it built and the guy closing it this year suggested we soak our filter cartridges in cleaning solution in a trash can over the winter. Unlike the first company that closed our pool, this company completely removed the cartridges from the filter housing and we placed them in a heavy duty trash bag for storage. He suggested we get a large trash can to store the filters in and fill it full of water and "filter cleaning solution" to soak the filters over the winter months. Does anyone have any comments on this approach and can anyone suggest the appropriate cleaning solution to soak them in?
  4. I put my Phantom Turbo into the pool this past weekend for the first time this year and noticed that it will go straight fo a short distance and then start spinning in a circle. Once it starts spinning in a circle, it eventually tangles the hose and will never straighten out again. This is the first problem I have had with the cleaner. Has anyone seen this before or know how to fix it?
  5. Thanks for the advice. Do you think it is worth the effort in going after the pool builder or installer they hired for damages?
  6. We finally received our cover from our pool builder (Blue Haven) and they paid the lowest bidder to install it. The cover is a Merlin Pool Guard Solid Safety Cover and I am not very happy with it. It is designed to rest on the water and it uses a gazillion rubber bungy cords to secure it to the pool deck. The installer chipped the concrete on every single hole they drilled and I am trying to find out if there is any sealer (similar to caulk) that I can put around the anchors that would fill in the chips. As a separate question...is it possible to change covers and fill in all of the holes drilled for the cover above? I would consider trashing this cover next year and getting a nicer Merlin Mesh cover that is taught over the pool and uses the srping tensioners. Thanks in advance for the advice.
