  1. I am looking and replacing my worn out cover for a Hydropool senerity hot tub. My local senerity dealer is looking for 500.00 taxes and shipping included for this cover. The original Hydro cover is a very Heavy duy cover.. I have been looking on line for Canadian dealers of covers and found two that seem good and can save me up to $100.00 on this. The two I am looking at are Hotubcoverscanada.com and thecoverguy.com (although I suspect they are the same company??). The prices for the premium cover from Hotubcoverscanada.com (about $100 savings / standard cover saves about $150.00) is quite reasonable and specs are as follows ◦environmentally friendly CFC-free insulation with the highest density 680g (1.5 lb) closed cell foam providing an R17.5 insulation rating ◦foam inserts wrapped in poly bags and heat sealed for minimal water absorption over the life of your cover ◦manufactured using durable marine grade top vinyl with UV & mildew inhibitors to help your cover last for many years ◦thickness of 4" tapering down to 3" to assist moisture runoff as well as an aluminum "C" channel running the entire length of the fold for added support. Heavy snow loads and small animals can be easily supported. ◦folding hinge with double reinforcement and reinforced handles to assist in proper cover removal ◦extensive stitching throughout and extra reinforcing of critical areas ◦4 lockable child safety straps helps protect your children and pets while meeting all ASTM standards for hot tub covers ◦5-year limited warranty QUESTIONS: Should I bite the bullet and buy the original Hydropool cover or is this one as good as the original? or can someone recommend a Canadian online dealer for a good cover. Thanks as always
  2. That was it, just put a heater in the bottom for an hour, reset the breaker once and voila, working well, heating now. Thanks for the help!
  3. I recently replaced my pump in my Hydropool Serenity hot tub, before hand I completely emptied the tub, wet vacuumed and blew out all the lines. After I installed the pump, it sat empty for a few days and some run off from the cover accumulated in the bottom foot well of the spa and froze there, roughly about 2 inches. Much to my chargrin, when I got water delivered for it, the water guy didn't notice the ice in the bottom and filled the tub completely. I seem to be getting flow through all of the outlets and the new pump is working fine, but my heater won't come on and I have a FLC error displayed on the control panel which the instructions says is a flow switch problem. Can anyone give me advice, I don't want to blow my new pump or have the tub freeze up. Is the heater not coming on because to the flow switch?? Is the flow switch not coming on because of the layer of ice in the bottom of the tub?? Never had a problem with the flow switch before I replaced the pump?? Help? Solutions?
  4. My only advice when buying a used hot tub is to use Nitro's guide to Super Decontamination as soon as it is installed, it will save you a world of problems in the future. I bought a used 05 Hydropool Serenity in March last year, $3000.00, keep looking sounds expensive!
  5. I have seen a couple of posts in here that many are trying to avoid the empty and refill of their tubs in the winter, can anyone give me advice on this, as I think I may be soon ready for a refill but I am expecting very cold weather the next couple of weeks (Southern Ontario Canada), and I want to make sure I do everything properly, yeah I know not very good planning, lesson learned. I have to get a water service in as I only have a well..... Thanks
  6. Hey All; Recently switched to chlorine from bromine after buying a used hot tub (I did do a super chlorination first!). So here 's the problem. Everything has been going swimmingly lately using a large chlorine tab floater, and shocking once a week or more with chlorine shock (100% sodium dichloro)> All levels have been good..Lately my chlorine level has been climbing steadily and I have been unable to keep it down, the Ph and Ak seem to go low which I can bring back up with Ak plus and PH up, stabilizer stays OK to high, sorry still using strips...I have had floater open at the lowest setting but the chlorine level didin't seem to come down..and the tub is used about 5 nights a week by one person for anywhere from 20 minutes to 1/2 hour. I currrently have the floater out of the tub to see if it will reduce.. Should I been using a non chlorine shock until this goes down? I assume that the chlorine shock is the culprit but it what the spa place told me to use... help is appreciated..Merry Christmas.
  7. +1 Speaking from experience...I would highly suggest using the super decontamination method listed in this forumon your/any used hot tub. I bought a used hot tub last March and fought with chemicals on a daily basis for over 4 months, I had a green film grow on the cover, green water, had foamy water etc etc and I even had one friend get a hot tub rash. I did not want to do the decontamination because I was completely new to this and once I did discover the decon. I didn't want to do it because I am on a well and knew it would cost me for 2 loads of water, one for the decon. the other for the refill, but I bit the bullet. I felt like you at that time that "I wasn't smart enough to have a hot tub" and I was ready to sell the tub because it was becoming too much work...but once the decontamination was done, chemical balancing is a breeze, I have only minor issues with levels but nothing major with the water or cover...and the water is as clear as the day I filled it... now I am only checking and balancing only every 3 to 4 days... Don't mess around with a used hot tub, decontaminate!
  8. I just had a fresh (water truck) refill and things have been running well, today after about three weeks I topped up the hot tub with tap water (well water) and about a half an hour later I went back to the tub and even though all levels are fine, the water is GREEN. I have had my tub for approx. 1 year and have always topped up the tub this way never with any problems or green water. My water is high in iron but as I said I never had a problem before and I have a water softener (Salt) and a water conditioner (Fer-Sul / Cullsorb Conditioner) After some investigation, it seems my water softener has died on me, therefore my tub received unsoftened but conditioner water, and I did just recently turn my Conditioner back on after not using it for almost a year...so here are my questions 1) Can I safely assume based on when this happened, A) that the softener is no longer working is the problem...OR... B that fact the the conditioner is NOW TURNED ON is the problem? 2) Is there any thing available that I can add to my tub to correct this, (my local spa store is closed until monday) or do I need to do a I have to do another fresh refill??!! Help is appreciated
  9. My wife has a a medium case of eczema and it has gotten worse since we got our hot tub in March, we use bromine and since she has very sensitive skin and has had a hard time with the bromine and has decided to avoid the hot tub. After reading this forum, next water change we are switching to chlorine and hopfully it will have the opposite reaction. Thanks
  10. I have bought a used Hydropool Serenity hot tub and now that fall is here I have noticed that the temp has been hovering about 2 degrees of where I have it set, I have it set at 99 and it always seem to be around 101, but never gets higher than 101. What would be the main cause of this being so high, I have had the tub since June, and i don't ever remember it getting that high above the set temp, even on the hottest summer day and i have yet to see the "filtration shut down" happen, which is suppose to happen if the temp rises two degrees over set temp. It is seems that the filter is always running, but being a working man I am not sure as I am not home all day and with the hot tub is heating the filter comes on... and as well there is a clean up setting on my spa where I can set the hot tub to come on twice a day anywhere from 1 hour to 12 hours at a time( it is set to 2 times a day..so I am not sure what is too much of running time for this tub between heating and filtration cycles...????? Also if the tub filter is coming on the to keep the water heated, do I really need these filtration cycles? I know alot of questions but I am confused.. Thanks for your help
